There are management positions in the NWS when you can get out of the rotation, but you obviously don't move into those until you're in your late 30's early 40's if you're really willing to work anywhere. It's hard, but hopefully you have cool co-workers, or else it's hell. So that is another thing, if you do go into operational meteorology, you will likely work rotating shifts. There are also research jobs within schools and broadcasting jobs. I always see some type of programming job for the government or private sector out there. But there are jobs in the private sector and these jobs are still competitive. So it can be number crunching, but it doesn't have to be.Р”Сћ) As you already know, operational meteorology jobs are competitive, typically on the scale of hundreds of applicants for an NWS office and in some cases up to one thousand applicants for highly desirable jobs. I guess you just gravitate with what motivates you. The research can be number crunching or studying storm systems/ significant weather events.

Well I am going to answer this from the perspective of an operational meteorologist at the NWS.Р”РЋ) If you do have graduate degree in the NWS, you do the same thing as everyone else, although you are free to do research in your own time. I know most of them have gr2analyst and some have digital atmosphere, both privately developed software. Some private sector mets may also like it too as well as some NWS offices. A lot of the guys starting out may not be willing to pay 7 a month, but met's in the top 50 markets make a decent chunk of change and may be willing to pay what you're asking. From what i know about the broadcast side of things they are always on time crunch and don't have a lot of time to look at data, so if you implement my 2nd point, that could be huge for some of them. this may be illegal soliciting a service by email, but I think they could be the main consumers. When you are entering beta, I would send emails to the broadcast mets and have them try out your product when you feel comfortable about it's performance. What I was referring to is if you are creating sub-sectors, a mouse-wheel up would zoom to a child sub-sector(a new image). I figured you were creating static images, and agree with your comment. The radar portion is meh, but that is because gr2analyst is so good. The reason being is the interface is pretty clean and the images load up quick.
